MYSORE: Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Union Minister for Rural Development, said on Thursday that though Karnataka has achieved progress in many facets of rural development, it is lagging behind in the implementation of some projects. Speaking to presspersons at Suttur village, near here, he said the food-for-work programme, funded by the Union Government, has not shown adequate progress in three districts. The Centre will release an additional Rs. 60 crores to these districts only after progress is achieved, he added. He said that of the 23 proposals related to rural development projects submitted to the Union Government, six proposals have been sanctioned. The Ministry has sought clarifications from the State Government on the other proposals, he said. Mr. Singh said the Centre is willing to provide funds for water projects; however, the funds should be utilised before more assistance is sought.
Bihar polls
Mr. Singh said effort will be made to present a united alliance of the constituents of the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) in the Assembly election in Bihar. However, no party will be "forced" to join the alliance. The alliance partners will not repeat mistakes.
