Letters to the Editor
The drive by some political parties of Tamil Nadu to popularise Tamil and oppose English is meaningless. English is an important language of communication in classrooms, interviews and work environment. The move seems to be a ploy to get publicity and nothing more. Why should anyone assume the right to tell the people and the film industry which language is good for them?
M. Vamadevan,
No one denies that English is necessary and perhaps even indispensable. But it should not be patronised at the cost of the mother tongue. English is slowly replacing Tamil in every field. If this is unchecked, soon we will have a new Tanglish-speaking generation.
V. Pandy,
