MYSORE: The Mysore-Chamarajanagar Districts Co-operative Milk Producers' Societies Union Ltd. has sought a financial assistance of Rs. 5.93 crores from the Union Government for establishment of milk chillers. A memorandum in this regard was submitted by the Chairman, A.T. Somashekar, and the Managing Director, A.S. Premnath, to the Union Minister for Rural Development, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, on Thursday morning. They said that the financial grant for establishment of milk chiller units and for other dairy development activities in Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts was needed. According to the proposal, 46 chiller units will be commissioned soon, which will benefit around 200 dairy co-operative societies. While briefing the Union Minister on the importance of the role of milk union in the uplift of rural milk producers, they said that they had submitted a proposal of Rs. 5.93 crores to the Union Government earlier. Mr. Singh reportedly assured the officials that the issue will be taken up on priority basis. The officials of the milk union were accompanied by the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, H.C. Mahadevappa, and the Chamarajanagar MP, M. Shivanna.
