IIT-JEE results

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The results of the Joint Entrance Examination for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) were announced on Thursday. In all, 4,500 students have cleared the test.

Around 1.8 lakh students had appeared for the examination for admission to one of the seven IITs at Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai, Mumbai, Guwahati, Delhi and Roorkee.

With the pattern of question paper being changed this time, the IIT Registrar, Colonel Rajinder Singh, said the cut-off was much higher. "We had to change the pattern this time following a request by the Government to make the entrance test easier for students from Government schools. And since many more students have performed well, the cut-off percentage has gone up," Col. Singh said.

The distribution of seats will be made clear in the next couple of days when the IIT dispatches the results to students.

"A lot of students and parents who came here were upset because they could not accept their son's failure in getting through the entrance.
