Four more heatstroke deaths in U.P.

LUCKNOW: Four more deaths were reported from different parts of the State as the severe heat wave continued to sweep the region, taking the toll in the current summer spell in Uttar Pradesh to 33.

Acute water shortage and power crisis added to the woes of the people, already reeling under the sweltering conditions.

Reports from different parts of the State said two people died due to a heatstroke in Mainpuri, while a person died in Jaunpur and one in the Hamirpur district.

Hundreds of cattle have reportedly died in Bundelkhand region which was also hit by acute water shortage.

Heat wave conditions prevailed in most parts of the State with above normal temperatures reported during the last 24 hours. Varanasi, Allahabad, Sultanpur and Bareilly at 45 degrees Celsius were the hottest, while the State Capital recorded 44 degrees.

The Met Department has forecast the continuance of the heat wave during the next 24 hours, with mainly dry weather and possibility of dust storms or thundershowers accompanied by squall at isolated places.

According to a Bhopal report, Madhya Pradesh continued to reel under severe heat wave condition even as the temperature in the world tourist site of Khajuraho touched 44 degrees Celsius.

According to the weather department, the temperature in the State had recorded a rise of three to four degrees Celsius.

The monsoon had got stuck in Goa because of the weakening of winds, sources said, adding this could cause a further delay in rains in the State. The heat wave was likely to continue for a few more days, sources said.

In Jharkhand, five more deaths were reported in the last 48 hours, taking the toll in the current spell of heat wave to 13. -- UNI
