Rebate in registration fees for transfer of property

  • Rebate in electricity bills
  • A women cooperative bank to be set up soon
  • Children to get health cards, regular check-ups

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, on Thursday announced several incentives for the empowerment of women.

Replying to a non-official resolution moved by MLA, Shiv Shankar Bhardwaj, asking the State Government to take steps to check the declining sex ratio, Mr.Hooda announced two per cent rebate in registration fees for transfer of property in the name of women. He further said that a rebate of 10 paise per unit would be given in electricity bills in case the domestic connection was in the name of a woman. Also a women cooperative bank would be set up and its unique feature would be that it would be run by the fairer sex themselves.

Moreover, children would be provided health cards and their health check-up would be conducted at regular intervals. Mr.Hooda announced that the first of its kind seminar for legislators would be organised to create an awakening among the people about declining sex ratio. The Members of Parliament as well as experts would be invited to express their views. He hoped that these measures would help in the empowerment of women and enhance their social status.

Earlier, while replying to the resolution, the Health Minister, Kartar Devi, described female foeticide and pre-natal diagnosis of sex as a social evil. She assured that the Government was aware of the situation and taking all effective steps to ensure dignity of women in society.

Expressing concern over the declining sex ratio, she said that according to the census 2001, the sex ratio in Haryana was the lowest as compared to other States as it was 861 females per thousand males. It was 865 females per thousand males in 1991. At the all- India level, this ratio was 927 females for one thousand males in 1991 and 933 females per thousand males in the year 2001.

She said that in case of 0 to 6 years age the situation was very bad. She said that the Hooda Government had taken steps for empowerment of women. Thirty three per cent of the posts of teachers had been reserved for women. The uniform allowance for girls had been doubled from Rs. 100 to Rs. 200 per month. The allowance of two uniforms admissible to girls of Class I and II belonging to weaker sections of the society had also been doubled from Rs. 100 to Rs. 200. Bicycles were being given free of cost to such girl students of Class VI , VII and VIII, who did not have a middle school in their villages.
