Cabinet to meet today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet will meet on Friday to decide, among other things, date for the Assembly session proposed to be held in July. The session assumes importance in view the announcement by the National Congress (Indira) leader K. Rectify delimitation anomalies: CPI(M)

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has urged the State Election Commission and the Government to take effective steps to rectify anomalies in the delimitation of wards. In a statement here on Thursday, Mr. Vijayan pointed out that the decision to hear complaints from different districts on ward delimitation had resulted in skirmishes and said that this could have been avoided if the hearing on complaints from different districts had been held in the districts concerned. — Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sub Lt. Rajesh S. Kumar, a product of the Kazhakoottam Sainik School, has won the sword of honour given to the best all-round officer in the 63/217 course of the Naval Engineering College, INS Shivaji, Lonawala, Pune. He also secured the President's silver medal for second in overall order of merit and bagged the first rank in the electrical and electronics stream. — Special Correspondent

Heavy vehicle strike from July 1

Thrissur: Heavy vehicles will stay off the road across the State from July 1 as part of an indefinite strike called by the Bus and Lorry Operators' Coordination Committee in protest against the Government's decision to make speed governors compulsory. This was announced at a meeting here on June 15. — Staff Reporter

Governor opens jubilee fete

THRISSUR: Governor R.L. Bhatia inaugurated the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Little Flower College, Guruvayur on Thursday with a call to give increased emphasis on Information Technology (IT). Recalling that IT has drastically redefined the education sector the Governor said even while absorbing the gains made by IT, there must be efforts to retain the basic values of education. Speaker Therambil Ramakrishnan presided. Calicut University Vice-Chancellor Syed Iqbal Hasnain, Archbishop Mar Jacob Thumkuzhy and P.K.K. AISF march

KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode District Committee All India Students Federation conducted a march to the office of the Deputy Director Education to protest against the educational policies being followed by the State Government. AISF central committee member K.K.Jyothi inaugurated the march.

The federation will intensify its programme by holding protests at the centre of the entrance examination organised by the management associations in Kochi on July 24. Protests marches will also be taken out to counselling centres on July 1. - Staff Reporter Citizen Forum awards presented
