Four killed as van overturns

ELURU: Four persons, including a three-year-old boy, were killed and 20 others were injured as a mini van transporting a marriage party turned turtle at Vadapalli near Kovvuru in West Godavari district on Thursday morning.

According to the Kovvuru sub-inspector, M. Ramesh, the ill-fated van turned upside down when it was hit by a lorry carrying poultry seed. The 35-member marriage party from Inaparru in Iragavaram mandal had hired a van to reach Surayyapet in Tallapudi mandal where a marriage was scheduled for Thursday at 11.30 a.m. The bride, Savatani Devi (18), escaped with minor injuries.

The victims were identified as Attili Veera Raghavulu (45) of Vadapalli, Pala Sriramamurthy (55), Pilli Jyoti (40) and Savatani Sudhakar (3) from Inaparru. The injured persons were shifted to the Government Hospital in Rajahmundry for treatment.
