Kanaka Kolar prevails

BANGALORE: Shetty's Mangalore led by Keerthan Shetty fought for all its worth. But at the end it was just not enough to put it across Kanaka Kolar in a keenly-fought boys' second round encounter of the State Youth basketball championship at the Sree Kanteerava stadium outdoor courts here on Thursday. Kanaka prevailed 40-38 after enjoying a 21-12 lead at the halfway stage.

The Kolar side seemed to have a comfortable lead after the first two quarters. But then there was no inkling of what Keerthan had in his mind. The ebullient shooter turned the game on its head with some telling display which took the sting out of Kanaka, which however managed to hold on to the slender lead till the final hooter.

In the pre-quarterfinals, last year's winner SAI (Dharwad) and fast-improving DRDO sides scored emphatic victories. While the Dharwad tem scored a 58-31 win over Davangere's merchants the DRDO team led by Shobith's all-round prowess scored a 40-28 win over Rangers (Mysore).

Rangers Mysore girls however had a winning outing with a 38-19 margin over Shetty's Mangalore to advance into the pre-quarterfinals.

The results:
