Separate mess to prevent ragging of students

Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI: With a view to saving the first year B.Tech students from possible ragging by their seniors in the SVU's College of Engineering, the university has proposed to go in for an exclusive hostel and mess building for their benefit.

The proposal was discussed in depth at a meeting the Vice-Chancellor, S.Jayarama Reddy had on Thursday with the principals of the University College of Arts and Sciences and the Engineering College to identify their problems and take necessary remedial measures even as the new academic year got underway recently. The respective college principals, Prof. J. Lakshmana Rao and Prof. N.C. Eswara Reddy articulated their views before the VC.

Another major decision taken at the meeting was to approach the All-India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) to accord permission to the engineering college to open a new combination in the computer sciences course under the self-financing mode.
