NEW DELHI: Floral tributes were paid at the statue of the veteran freedom fighter and first Chief Minister of Delhi, Brahm Perkash, by the Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, and the State Assembly Speaker, Prem Singh, at Old Secretariat here on the occasion of his 87th birth anniversary on Thursday. Paying tributes to the late leader, Mr. Singh remembered him as a great freedom fighter, a messiah of the backward classes and the chief architect of Delhi. "He was the leader of the co-operative movement in Delhi and took it to villages across the Capital. A true nationalists, he always fought for the cause of the Dalits and farmers," added Mr. Singh. Others who paid tributes included the State Health Minister, Yoganand Shastri; MP from Outer Delhi, Sajjan Kumar; and BJP leader, Sahib Singh Verma.
