CHITRADURGA: The police resorted to a mild caning as an enraged mob threw stones at a truck that fatally knocked down a schoolgirl here on Thursday morning. The name of the victim was given as M. Triveni (14), daughter of Manjunatha, an autorickshaw driver. She was studying in 9th standard at Shranabasaveshwara High School here. The accident occurred when she was riding a bicycle to school. On seeing the accident, the agitated public tried stopped the lorry by throwing stones at it. The police rushed to the spot. The driver of the lorry, who was beaten up by the public, fled the spot abandoning the vehicle.
