Every effort will be rewarded in Congress, says Dharam Singh

Ministers, Congress leaders shower praises on Shamanur Shivashankarappa

DAVANGERE: The Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, has said that every one in the Congress will get his share of recognition depending on seniority and contribution made to the party. But the party workers and leaders should be patient.

Even though he did not mention the Davangere MLA, Shamanur Shivashankarappa, Mr. Dharam Singh gave an indication that Mr. Shivashankarappa may be considered in the next Cabinet expansion.

The Congress still as two ministries in its share in the ministry.

At the 75th birthday celebrations of Mr. Shivashankarappa here on Thursday, Mr. Dharam Singh said: "We are all with you and we will recognise your contributions at an appropriate time."

He said he and Mr. Shivashankarappa, the Transport Minister, Mallikarjuna Kharge; the former Minister, K.H. Ranganath; and the former Railway Minister, C.K. Jaffer Sharief; were contemporaries.

The Maharashtra Governor, S.M. Krishna, said that Mr. Shivashankarappa is responsible for making Karnataka a prominent education centre.

Visionary

He said Mr. Shivashankarappa, who had just completed his Intermediate, had a great vision for the welfare of students.

The Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation, Oscar Fernandes; and the Union Minister of State for Planning, M.V. Rajashekaran; lauded Mr. Shivashankarappa's contribution in the field of education.

Justice Shivaraj V. Patil, member of the National Human Rights Commission; Ambarish, Hassan MP; Mr. Sharief and Mr. Kharge spoke.

Mr. Shivashankarappa, who replied to the felicitation, said he would keep aside Rs. 2 crores for charity during the year. Y. Nagappa, M.P. Prakash, R.V. Deshpande, and Basavaraj Horatti, ministers, and Dinesh R. Gundu Rao, State Youth Congress president; K.C. Kondaiah, MLC; and D. Basavaraj, Davangere City Municipal president, were present.

S.S. Mallikarjun, former Minister and son of Mr. Shivashankarappa, welcomed the gathering.
