Demands settlement of crop insurance claims in mandals

ADILABAD: The mandal parishad president (MPP) and the zilla parishad territorial constituency (ZPTC) member of Bejjur staged a sit near the dais during the Adilabad ZP general body meeting demanding settlement of crop insurance claims in their mandals on Thursday.

Loss of paddy

A mild flutter was created when K. Shankar, MPP, and Palvai Sudhakar Rao, ZPTC member (both belonging to the Telugu Desam Party), threatened to stage a walk out on the issue.

As the meeting was discussing about agriculture, the MPP wanted to know the status of insurance claims made for loss of paddy in Bejjur mandal during the last season.

He found fault with the crop loss survey conducted by the Government after the damage was caused. He pointed out that though the banks were deducting Rs.1.5 lakhs as crop insurance premia no claims were being settled.

Soyabean scarce

Earlier, the district Collector, R. Subba Rao, allayed fears expressed by the members that soyabean seed will be short of supply.

He said during the time of need, seed from seed surplus points could be diverted to the areas where it was needed urgently. He also assured the members of taking steps to curb the sale of spurious seed in villages.

Funds

Mr. Subba Rao promised to release the required funds for land development under the Rashtriya Sama Vikas Yojana (RSVY). He said 50 per cent of work under the RSVY was complete and the remaining would be taken up soon.

The Adilabad MLA, C. Ramchander Reddy, the Luxettipet MLA, N. Diwakar Rao, and the Asifabad MLA, A. Sridevi, were also present.
