MANGALORE: The Mayor, Purandaradasa Kulur, has said that the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, has promised a delegation comprising members of the Mangalore City Corporation to release Rs. 12.5 crores to complete work on the Karnataka Polytechnic-Maravoor stretch of the Mangalore Airport Road. Mr. Kulur said the delegation met the Chief Minister on Wednesday and told him that the road is a crucial link, considering the fact that Mangalore city has become an important information technology destination. With the city poised to get Rs. 25,000 crores to set up the Special Economic Zone, connecting the airport with important places has become important, he said. The delegation told Mr. Singh that owing to paucity of funds, work on the road has stopped. The delegation comprised the Chairman of the Mangalore Urban Development Authority, Haji Abdul Khader; the Chief Whip of the ruling party in the Mangalore City Corporation, Mahabala Maarla; the Chairman of the corporation's finance committee, Naveen D'Souza; the Executive Engineer, Suresh Babu; and the Deputy Director of the Land Army Corporation, Chandrashekar. The delegation also met the Minister for Industries, P.G.R. Sindhia.
