Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended on June 18 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work in Tambaram (West), Ramapuram, Valasaravakkam and Virugambakkam, Mannady, Esplanade, Kottivakkam, Kondithope, Park Town, SK Nagar, Ayapakkam and Nanganallur.

Banking service

Bank of Baroda has launched 24 hours banking at its KK Nagar Branch and 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. banking at its Mylapore and T Nagar branches in Chennai. It has also started offsite ATMs at Tambaram, St Thomas Mount and Saidapet.

`Meet your Scientist'

The Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre is organising "Meet your Scientist" programme with eminent scientists at Birla Planetarium, Periyar Science and Technology Centre, Kotturpuram on Friday (10.30 a.m). Dr Amitabha Ghosh, a scientist who has worked on several NASA projects, will talk about Mars Missions.

National integration camp

An All-India National Integration Camp for senior and junior division NCC cadets from 15 directorates of the country will be held from June 20 to July 1 at Adhiparasakthi Polytechnic College, Melmaruvathur.

Kennel facilities

Reacting to a news item `No Kennels for GRP sniffer dogs', the Railway authorities have said in a statement that "a joint inspection has been conducted and a spacious area is identified for construction of a police outpost for GRP with facilities for sniffer dogs. Standard, well-designed structures, similar to the ones provided for sniffer dogs of the Railway Protection Force, will be incorporated at the kennels of the police outpost. The work will be completed within the next six months," the statement said.

Research paper

Students of the Rajalakshmi Engineering College--Shiney Charles, Mary Sathya, Vandanan and Swetha Swarupini--did a research on "Optimal Power Flow Solution Using Evolutionary Programming". Their paper has been accepted for presentation at the International Conference on European Power and Energy Systems Euro PES 2005 in Spain. The college has sponsored the presentation of the paper by Prof T Doraiswamy and R Ravikumar.

Run over by train

A 28-year old doctor was run over by the Chennai-bound Kanyakumari Express at St.Thomas Mount here on Thursday morning. According to Southern Railway sources, V. Sumathi, working in a private charitable hospital in Tambaram, was crossing the railway track when she was fatally run over by the express train. The Railway police registered a case.

Health camp

Senior citizens Bureau and Lupin Limited will hold a `Healthy camp' for senior citizens on June 18 (Saturday 9 a.m. to Noon) at Kumaran Hospital, Kilpauk. A doctors' team comprising a chest specialist, geriatrician and physiotherapist will attend the camp. For details contact: Dr. V.S. Natarajan, the Bureau chairman, on 26412030.
