Meet to discuss NGOs' role in road safety

BANGALORE: Accidents kill 200 people on roads every day in India, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Starting on Friday, the two-day "Road Safety NGO Workshop," is aiming to raise awareness about road safety and increase the role of non-governmental organisations in this initiative.

According to the WHO, by 2020, the number of deaths from road crashes will reach 2.3 million and 90 per cent of the deaths will be in the less motorised countries. India is one of the most affected nations, accounting for 80,000 deaths a year due to road accidents.

The workshop is art of the efforts of the WHO and the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) to improve road safety worldwide.

The WHO and GRSP are working to bring a joint effort with the help of government agencies, private sector and civil society. The workshop is being supported by the Standard Chartered Bank.

The workshop is being held at Ramanashree California Resort on Doddaballapur Road.
