HYDERABAD: Abdul Rehman (6) was killed when a lorry hit him while crossing the road at Shaheennagar in Pahadisharieff on Thursday. The accident triggered protest by locals. Son of a small-time hotelier, Saleh Bin Abdullah, the boy was studying first class in a local Madarsa. Around 9.30 a.m., Abdullah was going to his hotel located just across the road. Suddenly, Rehman came on to the road running after his father. The truck, laden with granite, lost control, knocked down the boy, fell into a roadside ditch and stopped after hitting a tree. The lorry driver, Kishan, fled the spot. Agitated over the boy's death, some people gathered at the spot and blocked the road, bringing traffic to a grinding halt. The demonstration, led by the Charminar MLA, Ahmed Pasha Quadri, continued for over two hours, resulting in a traffic jam on the Hyderabad-Srisailam road. Stating that lack of speed breakers and road markings was resulting in frequent accidents in the area, the MLA urged the Government to initiate measures to check the mishaps. They called off the demonstration with the Pahadisharieff police promising to take the matter to the notice of the Government.
