SRINAGAR: After former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen, it was the turn of legendary Bollywood actress Waheeda Rehman to spend some time with orphans here on Saturday. Ms. Rehman, on a private visit to Kashmir, met around 30 children of "Rahat Ghar" a shelter for orphans and widows, at a function organised by the 52nd battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). She distributed salwar suits and blankets to inmates of the shelter. Ms. Rehman, herself associated with an NGO, Pratham (Prime), said orphan students needed to be encouraged and everyone should contribute his mite for their welfare. "The prime or basic thing for a successful life is to get good education so as to land a plum job." She told the students that they should not feel lonely. "Don't feel that you are orphans... in fact all of us are the progeny of God", she said.
Flashback
Nostalgic about Kashmir, she recalled how she visited the Valley 26 years back to shoot a film. But regretted that a lot had changed. "Kashmir was a wonderful place. I can observe that the Dal Lake has shrunk a lot and garbage litters the city." She said that now with the peace process in full swing and return of normality, Bollywood producers would make a beeline to the Valley for location shooting.
