GADAG: Farmers, who are on a 35-day relay fast at Nargund in Gadag district, seeking early implementation of the Kalasa Banduri Nala project for the diversion of water to the Malaprabha reservoir, have decided to intensify their agitation. According to Basavaraj Bommai, MLC and the President of the Federation of the Ryot organisations, which is spearheading the movement, the decision has been taken following the State Government's indifference towards the movement. Mr. Bommai told presspersons at Nargund on Friday that the decision to intensify the agitation was taken as nobody responsible in the Government, including the minister concerned visited Nargund and tried to talk to the agitating farmers. The Federation decided to call for a Nargund bandh on June 28 and launch the agitation in Hubli-Dharwad too. All corporators of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (United) in the Hubli Dharwad Municipal Corporation, who have expressed solidarity with the striking farmers, will join them in the relay fast on June 28 Mr. Bommai criticised the silence of H.K. Patil, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, who promised to take up the farmers' issue with the State Government.
