Mild tremors in Kodagu

MADIKERI: Shanivarasante, Beetikatte and several adjoining areas of Somwarpet taluk in Kodagu, including Somwarpet town, experienced mild tremors at 7.10 p.m. on Saturday. People rushed out of their houses to safety, according to information received here.

The tremors lasted for two to three seconds in Shanivarasante. The tremors lasted for five seconds at Beetikatte and Somwarpet towns, sources said.

People rushed out of their houses on feeling the vibrations of the earth in Somwarpet town. Yedoor and Tolur-Shettalli, which had become the centre of controversy following black granite mining in the recent days, also experienced tremors. When contacted, the Deputy Commissioner, Subodh Yadav, confirmed that some tremors were felt in some areas.
