Sabarimala temple closed

PATHANAMTHITTA: Hundreds of devotees thronged the holy hillock of Sabarimala on Sunday to witness ``kalabhabhishekom'' ritual at the Lord Ayyappa Temple.

Tantri Kantaru Mohanaru performed the ``kalabhapuja'' at the Namaskara Mantapam. The ``kalabhom'' (sandal paste) was taken out in a procession to the sanctum sanctorum prior to the ``utchapuja'' with the accompaniment of the sacred ``marappani'' and other temple orchestra.

``Padipuja,'' ``udayasthamanapuja'' and ``pushpabhishekom'' were the other rituals performed. The temlpe was closed after the ``athazhapuja'' in the evening.

The Ayyappa shrine will reopen on July 16 afternoon for the five-day monthly puja.
