IMPHAL: The Army on Sunday gained a major success in Manipur, clearing the Henglep sub-division, near Churachandpur district, of insurgent groups. Defence sources said here that troops of the Red Shield Division undertook a major operation to clear insurgency-affected Henglep. After a long march and a few skirmishes en route, the troops closed in on Henglep and cleared the surrounding areas of insurgents.
Insurgents on the run
The sources said the insurgents were on the run and the Army had seized two AK-47 rifles. The Army also smashed a number of hideouts and detonated IEDs in Henglep and nearby areas. Fifty-seven Mountain Division (Red Shield Division) General Officer Commanding Major General G.G. Dwivedi and Churachandpur Army Brigade Commander Brigadier R. K. Sharma visited Henglep on Saturday and interacted with the local people. They assured the locals of their full cooperation in their endeavour for peace and development. Earlier, in another major operation, the National Highway-53 up to Kaiphundai had been cleared of insurgents. UNI
