CUDDAPAH: Fall in power generation due to the Government's lopsided policy led to an acute power scarcity and could hamper free power supply to agriculturists in the State, the CPI district Secretary, G. Obulesu, alleged on Sunday. The State's power generation capacity of 11,106 MW fell to 5,300 MW, due to the Government's mishandling and closure of generating units, he alleged at a press conference at Yerraguntla. He flayed the Finance Minister, K. Rosaiah's claim that power cuts became inevitable and his appeal for people's cooperation. The Government's negligence of the power sector was evident in not having a Power Minister so far, the CPI leader alleged. Despite farmers' agitations before electrical sub-stations, the Government was indifferent, depicting its lack of control over the official machinery which imposed power cuts at will, he alleged. Free power supply to farmers would be rendered `farcical' unless necessary power was purchased from other States and the people's needs met, Mr. Obulesu observed.
