Ex-MLA joins Puducherry Munnetra Congress

Special Correspondent

PONDICHERRY: The founder of the Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC) and former Home Minister of Pondicherry, P. Kannan, has said that he had launched the party to help cut down on unemployment.

Addressing the first public meeting after formation of the new party at Sedarapet in Oussudu Assembly constituency on Saturday where he welcomed into his party former Congress legislator Tyagi N. Marimuthu and a large number of his followers, Mr. Kannan said the ruling Congress in Pondicherry was in doldrums following factionalism. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and Pradesh Congress Committee leader V. Narayanasamy were at loggerheads. The raising of anti-Narayanasamy slogans by party workers in the presence of AICC secretaryK.B. Krishnamoorthy proved strongly that the Congress was losing base in Pondicherry, he said.

The Puducherry Munnetra Congress would not rest till the Rangasamy Government was unseated. ``My goal is to establish a people friendly and clean administration in Pondicherry,'' Mr. Kannan added.
