A taskmaster Greg Chappell has quite a task on his hands in motivating the Indians. His agenda of having a discussion with Sachin Tendulkar, to pull the master-batsman out of the lean patch is sure to pay off. To be sure, we will soon see fireworks from Tendulkar's bat. A taskmaster, Chappell will, without doubt, mould the Indians players to the extent that they can be expected to beat even the Australians. K. Pradeep, Chennai A great foresight Even as we watched with increasing admiration the flowering of Rafael Nadal in the French Open, it is difficult not to appreciate the foresight of Jordi Aresse and co. (the powers that be of the Spanish Davis Cup team), who had pitted the young talent back in 2004 against the likes of Andy Roddick. What conviction! What foresight! Suresh Manoharan, Hyderabad
Cup of woe India's cup of woe in sports seems to be overflowing with a series of disasters. We lost our position in hockey at the Azlan Shah tournament in Kuala Lumpur, while the cricketers came cropper against Pakistan at home. The promising tennis talent Sania Mirza failed in England, and the latest has been Narain Karthikeyan, who touched a low in the latest F-I race in the Canadian GP. C.R. Kalyanasundaram, Chennai Congratulations! Congratulations to Nirmal Shekar on being conferred the SJFI award for tennis writing and thereby bringing laurels to The Hindu. His articles on various topics not only on tennis but also on cricket and F-1 racing have been enjoyable. His preview on the Wimbledon 2004 was spot on with regard to the ultimate winner, Maria Sharapova. A.V. Narayanan, Tiruchi Underrated opponents By defeating the world champion Australia in the second game of the NatWest series, Bangaladesh has proved to the world that it is a force to be reckoned with in international cricket. This win confirms that its earlier wins over Pakistan and India were no flukes. As everyone knows, the strenuous efforts of the talented youth in their team fetched them a well-deserved victory in a Test series against Zimbabwe. While the underdogs work hard and win, the mighty ones lose through over-confidence. No one should underestimate an opponent. K.D. Viswanaathan, Coimbatore
