COIMBATORE: Hyderabad's Aditya Akkineni, Akhil Khushlani and Vishnu Prasad of Chennai emerged champions in their respective categories in the opening leg of the JK Tyre Rotax Mojo Max Indian Challenge, organised by LG Sports at the Kari Motor Speedway in Chettipalayam, near here on Sunday. For the 16-year-old Aditya it was a dream debut. Having graduated into the senior category this year, the Hyderabad driver displayed good skill and reigning champion Rayomand Banajee of Pune had no answer. The Pune driver's brakes weren't fully effective and he bumped into Aditya a few times in the pre-final. Besides winning the race, Aditya also clocked the fastest lap timing of 00:39:901. Akhil was in a similar position. He dominated the junior category. Ajay Kini, who finished second, proved no match to Akhil's speed and skill. Karan Goenka starting fourth on grid did a commendable job to finish third. In the Rotax Mini Max category, Vishnu was a clear winner in the 15-lap race. Kolhapur-based Parth Ghorpade offered some resistance midway through, but the Chennai lad, who has been consistent the past three days, withstood the challenge and claimed the title. Earlier in the pre-final, the trio, as expected, had no problem in gaining the grid position for the final. The results: Seniors (25 laps): 1. Aditya Akkineni (16:47:746), 2. Rayomand Banajee (17:13:854), 3. Deepak Chinnappa (16:48:742 24 laps). Juniors (15 laps): 1. Akhil Khushlani (11:55:997), 2. Ajay Kini (12:06:847), 3. Karan Goenka (11:56:705). Rotax Mini Max (15 laps): 1. Vishnu Prasad (09:58:636), 2. Parth Ghorpade (09:59:456), 3. Mohit Ahuja 10:20:676.
