Korea qualifies for play-off round

CHENNAI: : Korea qualified for the play off round of the World volleyball championship qualification tournament to be held here from July 1 to 3, according to a press release by Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) on Sunday.

In a second round qualification match held at Almaty in Kazakhstan, Korea defeated UAE 3-0 in a one sided match. Korea won 25-13,25-4, 25-18.

Kazakhstan qualified for the main world championship to be held in Tokyo in 2006. It beat Taipei 25-20, 25-11, 25-19. Chinese Taipei finished in the third position and United Arab Emirates in the fourth, at the end of the second round qualification tournament matches.

The qualification round matches in Chennai are scheduled to be held from June 24. Meanwhile, 32 candidates from Sri Lanka, Maldives and India will attend FIVB volleyball information system course to be held here from Monday to June 24 in connection with the World championship qualification tournament. — UNI
