Machinery to protect sandal forest THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A division, range and four forest stations have been created in the Forest Department for protecting sandal trees in the Marayoor forest area. Marayoor will be the headquarters of the division and the Marayoor range will come under it. The Marayoor and Kanthalloor forest stations will be retained. The new range will come up at Kanthalloor and two of the new stations at Nachivayal and Vananthurai. The two other new stations would be set up at Karimutti, which comes under the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary in Munnar Wildlife Division, and Chattamunnar, which comes under the Eravikulam National Park. Some 70 posts in various categories have also been created for the new machinery. Six of them will be filled through redeployment. Special Correspondent

Inaugurating the 37th State conference of the Kerala Panchayat Employees Association here on Saturday, Mr. Mohammed Kutty said that legal tangles and paucity of staff were the major problems faced by self-governing institutions.
