THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy left for Delhi from Kochi via Anand in Gujarat on Sunday for discussions with the Congress high command on the choice of the new president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). Ramesh Chennithala who has emerged as the near-consensus candidate for the presidentship, the former Chief Minister A.K. Antony, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Thennala Balarkrishna Pillai and Vayalar Ravi, MP, will also reach Delhi on Monday for discussions. The announcement of the new president is expected after the discussions. The KPCC had authorised the Congress president to chose the new KPCC president at its meeting on Saturday. Mr. Chandy will hold discussions with Amritha Patel, chairman of the National Dairy Development Board, in Anand on Monday before proceeding to Delhi the same day. The discussions with Ms. Patel will cover sanction of projects costing Rs.133 crores for development of the dairy sector in the State. The proposals include construction of a dairy plant at Pookot in Wayanad district and modernisation of the Veterinary Biological Institute there, besides schemes for basic infrastructure development for the Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation and regional milk cooperatives.
