MUMBAI: Anil Ambani on Sunday ruled out resigning the membership of Rajya Sabha in the wake of new business responsibilities, saying his term was still on. "I have still five years to go," he told reporters here when asked whether his increased involvement in corporate affairs could distance him from active politics. Mr. Anil Ambani was elected to the Rajya Sabha last year as an independent with support from Mulayam Singh Yadav's Samajwadi Party, and his entry into politics was reportedly against the wishes of his elder brother and Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani. During the ownership battle in the Reliance group, Mr. Anil Ambani's association with the Samajwadi Party was often criticised and resented by the Mukesh camp on the ground that it could hurt business interests of the Ambani family. Mr. Anil Ambani's ambitious Rs. 11,000-crore Dadri power project in Uttar Pradesh was also seen in political light by his detractors and the issue was yet another point of contention between the brothers.
