BANGALORE: C.P. Karthik registered an exciting 11-4, 5-11, 11-8, 13-11, 7-11, 8-11, 12-10 victory over Gautham Gupta to claim the junior boys' singles title in the Canara Union's State-ranking table tennis championship at the club hall here on Sunday. Karthik, who led 3-1 in the tie, was rocked by a spirited come back from Gautham Gupta, who came up with some solid counters to take the fifth and sixth games and squared the issue at 3-all. The decider was a seesaw affair as Gautham grabbed a 9-7 lead. Pushing the game to extra points, Karthik came up with a solid forehand topspin, which had Gautham punching the return into the net, thus dropping the game and match. Meanwhile B.M. Ashwini beat S.R. Nikitha at 10-12, 9-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-5, 11-5 and bagged the women's singles title. Nikitha claimed the junior singles title with a 9-11,11-6, 7-11, 11-6, 11-5, 13-11 victory. The top seed, Uday S. Athreya claimed the men's singles title with a 8-11, 11-6, 11-7, 8-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-4 win over Anirban Trafdar. Both Uday and Karthik also completed a fine double as they had paired to win the men's doubles title beating Anirban Tarafdar and Krunal Telang of Canara Bank 11-5,11-8,11-7. N. Poojitha, who was consistent performer in the cadet and sub-junior section last year and who had won 10 titles last season, was felicitated on her achievements by the KTTA. The results: Final: Men's singles: Uday S. Athrya bt Anirban Tarafdar 8-11, 11-6, 11-7, 8-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-4. Semifinals: Uday S.Athreya bt C.P.Karthik 10-12, 11-4, 4-11, 11-8, 11-2, 3-11, 11-9. Men's doubles final: Uday S.Athryea & C.P. Karthik bt Anirban Tarafdar & C.P. Karthik 11-5, 11-8, 11-7. Women's singles final: B.M. Ashwini bt S.R. Nikitha 10-12, 9-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-5, 11-5. Semifinals: Ashwini bt Priya Dinesh 11-3, 11-4, 11-6, 11-6; S.R. Nikitha bt S. Bhavana 11-8, 8-11, 11-2, 11-13, 11-7, 11-8. Junior girls' singles final: S. Sahana 9-11, 11-6, 7-11, 11-6, 11-5, 13-11; semifinals: S.R. Nikitha bt S. Bhavana 11-9, 11-8, 9-11, 10-12, 11-8, 11-8; S. Sahana bt Shamika V. Desai 11-8, 7-11, 11-7, 11-4, 9-11, 12-10.
