CHANDIGARH: The Congress Member of Parliament from Chandigarh, Pawan Kumar Bansal, has urged the Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator, S. F. Rodrigues, to name the upcoming IT Park at Kishangarh here after the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. In a letter written to Gen. Rodrigues, Mr. Bansal said the Park should be called "Rajiv Gandhi IT Park.'' He said it was the late Rajiv Gandhi who had envisioned taking India to the 21st Century as a "proud nation''. He took major initiatives in different fields of national activity so that India could emerge as a strong global economic power. "It was under his stewardship that various Technology Missions were launched and expansion of telecommunications and Information Technology received a big boost." He said Rajiv Gandhi wanted Chandigarh to develop as a veritable trend-setter in modern urban planning and a caring city for the different strata of society. "It would be just and appropriate that the IT Park is named after that great son of India whose 61st birth anniversary falls on August 20. ," he said.
