BARABANKI (U.P.): Making a frontal attack on the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led Uttar Pradesh government, Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh said on Sunday that the law and order machinery in the State had collapsed. Talking to newspersons here, Mr Singh said the State Government had utterly failed to provide even basic amenities to its people. ``While, the U.P. Government is beating the trumpet of development, the common man is reeling under scarcity of power and water,'' he claimed. Charging the previous NDA-led regime at the Centre with trying to ``saffronise'' education, the senior Congress leader claimed the changes in the syllabus effected by it was not approved by the Union Cabinet and the NCERT. ``We support `democratic' improvement in education and have constituted a committee comprising intellectuals and educationists to give suggestions in this regard,'' he said. - UNI
