NEW DELHI: The Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, said on Sunday that his Government would safeguard the interest of the farmers and workers in keeping with the policies of the Congress-led Government at the Centre. Speaking at a civic reception organised in his honour at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Bawana, Mr. Hooda also said his Government would sympathetically consider Delhi's request for water for the rural areas of Outer Delhi. "As the cultures of Outer Delhi and Haryana are similar, I have a special attachment with the residents of Outer Delhi,'' he added. The Outer Delhi Member of Parliament, Sajjan Kumar, requested the Haryana Chief Minister to release water for farmers living in the rural areas of Outer Delhi on humanitarian grounds. "Though this will be difficult task, but it would provide great relief to the distressed people of the rural areas,'' Mr. Kumar added. On the occasion, senior Congress leader including Tarif Singh, Bharat Singh, Raj Kumar Chauhan, Mukesh Sharma, Jai Kishan, S.C.Vats, Vijay Lochav, Mahabal Mishra and Anil Bhardwaj were also present. Mr. Hooda was honoured with a turban and a 5 kg silver mace.
