NEW DELHI: The former Union Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Vijay Goel, has blamed the Sheila Dikshit Government for the water problems of Delhiites and written to the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, seeking his intervention on the issue of supply of raw water to the Sonia Vihar water treatment plant here. Mr. Goel has urged the Prime Minister to enquire how more than Rs. 800 crores has been spent on the Sonia Vihar plant when no agreement for supply of water was in place. Stating that politics was playing a big role in Delhi's water problem, he said it was well known that the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mulayam Singh Yadav, had bitter relations with the Congress. "The Sheila Dikshit Government hurriedly announced that the Uttar Pradesh Government was going to release water for the Sonia Vihar plant when the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Minister and other officials clearly stated that they were not releasing any water for Delhi,'' he added. The BJP leader called for convening a meeting of the Chief Ministers of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Uttaranchal to sort out the issue.
