Security enhanced in VIP areas

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The New Delhi police have come up with new ways to keep tab on miscreants, most of who come from other districts of the Capital to commit crime.

The police personnel have now been asked to carry out surprise checks at different locations at different times. While temporary pickets are set up to check vehicles, especially two-wheelers, senior police officers take rounds to oversee the arrangements.

Such a measure, the police feel, would help them contain snatching cases, apart from other incidents of petty crimes in the district. Barricades are also erected on roads at night to keep an eye on vehicles.

Patrol teams have been asked to be extra cautious while verifying identity of two-wheeler riders, as miscreants might attack them in their bid to escape. As a safety measure, the police personnel have now been asked to remove the ignition key before questioning riders. They have also been told to carry out personal search from behind to prevent any attack by suspected criminals.

According to the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Police Control Room), Rupender Kumar, apart from the 59 PCR vans, 12 more vehicles were inducted this past week for patrolling in the New Delhi district. The vans will also cover security sensitive pockets, including residential complexes of parliamentarians at places like Western Court, South Avenue, North Avenue and M.S. Flats near Lohia Hospital.
