MADIKERI: The renovation work on the temples at Talacauvery and Bhagamandala in Kodagu will be completed by May 2007, the Kodagu Deputy Commissioner, Subodh Yadav, has said. The Cauvery Neeravari Nigama is undertaking the project. Speaking to presspersons at Bhagamandala after reviewing the renovation works recently, Mr. Yadav said Rs. 4.56 crore will be spent on the works in Talacauvery, while Rs. 5.73 crore will be spent on renovating the structures in Bhagamandala.
Funds pending
A sum of Rs. 1.03 crore, granted by the Government in 2003 for the renovation of the temples is pending with the district administration since the Cauvery Neeravari Nigama took over the renovation work. Mr. Yadav said that he had sent a proposal to the State Government seeking its permission to utilize a sum of Rs. 18 lakh for the Irpu Sri Rameshwara temple in Virajpet taluk and Rs. 45 lakh for the development of the Padi Igguthappa temple in Madikeri taluk. The balance amount of Rs. 40 lakh would be used for the development of Sri Omkareshwara temple in Madikeri and Palur Mahaligeshwara temple in Madikeri taluk. Separate proposals had been sent to the Government in this regard too, he said. Mr. Yadav said a decision to appoint an administrative officer to the seven Muzrai temples in Kodagu was likely to come through in July. As several temple managements had moved the court against the order of the State Government to appoint advisory committees in temples, the appointment of administrative officers was delayed. He stated the Government was yet to provide a sum of Rs. 80,000 to the Coorg Temple funds management committee, which was the annual grant for the maintenance of the seven Muzrai temples for the last two years. The committee had a sum of Rs. 15 lakh with it, which was the collection received from the seven Muzrai temples in Kodagu. Mr. Yadav stated that the district administration would seek a sum of Rs. 8 lakh from the State Government for the Talacauvery jatra slated for October.
