MADIKERI: The monsoon seems to have picked up in the district with Virajpet taluk recording good rainfall on Monday. Bhagamandala recorded 98.2 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours. Thanks to good inflow, the water level in the Cauvery is gradually rising. The average rainfall in Virajpet taluk in the past 24 hours (Sunday 8 a.m. to Monday 8 a.m.) has been put at 48.6 mm, while it is 26.4 mm in Madikeri taluk and 11.2 mm in Somwarpet taluk. Madikeri taluk received 274.9 mm rainfall since January as against 1094 mm received in the corresponding period last year. Somwarpet taluk has received 298.3 mm rainfall so far this year (844 mm last year) while Virajpet has received 429.8 mm rainfall (1124.2 mm the previous year). Bhagamandala has received 677.8 mm rainfall so far, which is low compared to 1875.2 mm rainfall recorded during the corresponding period the previous year. Talacauvery has reportedly received good rains but details are awaited. The Harangi reservoir area received 13.3 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours. The inflow into the reservoir on Monday stood at 394 cusecs, while the water level stood at 2791.63 ft as against 2828.84 ft recorded during the same period the previous year.
