KARUR: The district president of the Hindu Munnani has been arrested following a complaint that he assaulted a CPI (M) woman cadre who had converted to the Christian faith recently. Two other Munnani cadres have also been taken into custody. Pastor Daniel Rajappa, originally hailing from Madurai, has been active in the Karur region for the past four years with his Pentecostal Prayer Mission. He was running the Mission previously at Mullai Nagar in the Velayuthampalayam area and had been involved in previous altercations with the Hindu Munnani district president, Raja alias Auto Raja, over communal issues. On June 15, the pastor had hired the house of one Chellamuthu at Gandhi Nagar and was conducting house-warming ceremony with prayer when Mr. Raja and some others, raised objections. It seems that, during the course of the arguments, the Munnani cadres had alleged that he was hopping from place to place and establishing prayer halls in the area. Following that, a CPI (M) member, Kalaivani, who had converted to Christianity recently and whose estranged husband is a Hindu Munnani volunteer, complained to the police that Mr. Raja and some other volunteers of the Munnani had assaulted her. The Velayuthampalayam police filed an FIR and conducted enquiries.
