KARUR: Police have made a breakthrough and recovered gold jewels worth 45 sovereigns stolen from a house here in May last year. A retired health official's house at New Pillayar Street here was burgled on May 8, 2004, and the miscreants decamped with 45 sovereigns of gold jewellery worth over Rs.1.75 lakhs. A case was registered and the Karur Town police was inquiring into the burglary. Investigations revealed that K. Anbuselvan alias Selvamani (32) of East Gate area in Thanjavur was involved in the burglary. Incidentally, the Koradachery police in Tiruvarur district had arrested Anbuselvan on May 31 last and he was lodged at the Central Prison, Tiruchi, since. The undertrial was taken into custody and upon interrogation confessed to his involvement in the crime. The stolen property was recovered and Anbuselvan was remanded in judicial custody.
