APMC polls not a mandate against coalition, says Mirajuddin Patel

Staff Correspondent

BIDAR: The results of the elections to the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committees are not a mandate against the coalition Government in the State, the Minister for Animal Husbandry, Mirajuddin Patel, said in Humnabad on Monday.

Speaking to presspersons, he said that the APMC elections were not fought on party symbols and were basically fought on personality politics. "Since our party is not involved in these elections, we cannot take responsibility for the defeat of individual candidates," Mr. Patel said. "We will show our strength in the coming taluk panchayat and zilla panchayat elections."

He said that he has filed a Rs. 25-lakh defamation case against the Urdu daily Hyderabad-Karnataka for publishing an article which he termed is false and baseless and affected his image. He said that he is seeking an unconditional apology from the editor of the daily and has also complained to the Press Council of India.

Mr. Patel promised that he would work towards he establishment of the government medical college. Work on the Karanja irrigation project will be completed soon, he said. He will urge the Minister for Water Resources, Mallikharjuna Kharge, to ensure that water is released in the canals by June.

Mr. Patel said he has requested the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, to lay the foundation stone for the scheme to provide drinking water to Humnabad, Chitaguppa and 10 ten other villages.
