ERODE: About 900 agricultural labourers were arrested on Monday in the district when they picketed Government offices. Demanding immediate implementation of Kolappan Committee recommendations, proper maintenance of the Agricultural Labourers Welfare Board, grant of houses to agricultural labourers and other demands, hundreds belonging to Bharath Kisan Mazdoor Union (BKMU) picketed the Dharapuram Municipal Bus stand. The District CPI Secretary and former MLA, N. Periyasamy, who led the picketing, was also arrested. Similar agitations were conducted in Erode, Uthukuli, Kangeyam, Bhavani, Gobi and Sathyamangalam.
