BANGALORE: The Indian probables list for the forthcoming tri-nation series in Sri Lanka, will be announced here on Tuesday. The BCCI secretary S.K. Nair who arrived in the City here on Monday evening, said: "The selectors will meet on Tuesday morning and finalise the probables for the tri-nation series in Sri Lanka. The dates for the various camps will also be finalised and announced." The tournament is scheduled to be held from August 1 to 14 and will feature host Sri Lanka, West Indies and India. The Board secretary however said that the number of probables and other details will be decided only during the course of the selection committee meeting. "We will also have informal discussions with Greg Chappell," Nair said before leaving to meet the Indian team coach along with joint secretary Gautam Dasgupta. The selectors are scheduled to arrive here tonight as well as on Tuesday morning. A series of camps fast bowlers' camp, conditioning camp for probables and a cricket-skills camp for the Indian team awaits the players in the coming weeks.
Chappell at the NCA
Earlier it was a busy day for Greg Chappell as he interacted with the under-22 trainees at the National Cricket Academy. Chappell stressed on the importance of mental toughness and attitude to succeed at the highest level. He emphasised on the value of fielding and asked coaches to closely observe a bowler's technique. Chappell also stressed that players like Don Bradman, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Vivian Richards, Steve Waugh and Brian Lara were great because they usually were in a better position to play the delivery than others. Chappell will also have a follow-up session with the trainees in the coming days.
Binny praises Chappell
Former India all-rounder and Asian Cricket Council's (ACC) development officer Roger Binny stressed that Chappell's appointment as coach was a welcome development. "You cannot get a better person than Chappell. He has had considerable experience as a player and is a man of stature. I am sure the players will gain immensely from him. It may not be much of a difference for a Sachin or a Rahul but the younger lot, I am sure, they will learn a lot. I have interacted with him both as player and as coach and in fact he has conducted a few coaching programmes with the ACC. But yes he should also have an active role with the second string like the under-19 level," Binny said.
