CHENNAI: Traffic on the Chennai-Mumbai section was disrupted for about four hours due to the derailment of a goods train near Tiruttani (between Arakkonam and Renigunta) in the early hours of Monday. The brakevan of the goods train, which was on its way to Palakkad from Renigunta, derailed at 2.15 a.m. near Tiruttani station. In the absence of specialised equipment for handling derailment, a breakdown special from Chennai had to be rushed to Tiruttani for rerailing the wagon. The track was restored for traffic at 6.30 a.m. Following the accident, the Mumbai-Chennai mail had to be detained at Tiruttani station for about 70 minutes. Three EMU services on the section were also cancelled. Traffic was restored on the section at 6.45 a.m., according to Southern Railway officials.
