CHENNAI: Korattur police arrested three people on Sunday at Padi over the murder of a 70-year-old woman last month. Police seized jewellery weighing six sovereigns and silver articles weighing one kilo and 26 cell phones from the three. According to A. Pari, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ambattur, Raja, an ex-convict from Padi hatched a plan with his associates, Suresh and Palani, to rob Lakshmiammal, who lived alone in Sathya Nagar. On May 30, Suresh and Palani entered Lakshmiammal's house in the afternoon, when she was asleep, while Raja waited outside. The police said the two slit her throat and took Rs. 1,100 in cash, kept in an almirah. Mr. Pari said that in the last one-and-a-half months, the three had been involved in house and shop break-ins in Ambattur, Kallikkuppam, Nerkundram, Padi and Tiruverkadu areas.
