Deans, Heads told to get ready for NAAC re-accreditation

Staff Reporter

Vice-Chancellor holds an informal meeting to discuss strategy for next two months

MADURAI: The Vice-Chancellor of the Madurai Kamaraj University, P. Maruthamuthu, on Monday asked all Deans and department heads to "hurry up" and complete formalities before going for National Assessment and Accreditation Council re-accreditation within two months.

He held an informal meeting with the Deans after returning from an exclusive re-accreditation meeting of 10 Vice-Chancellors convened by NAAC in Bangalore last weekend.

"We have to fulfil certain criteria before inviting the peer team to our campus. Preparation of data/history of all departments and quality assurance cell are some of the important works to be completed," he said while talking to The Hindu about the preparatory exercise.

According to him, the varsity will have to introduce `teacher evaluation' wherein students would be able to evaluate their faculty. Also, the NAAC had sought particulars about extension activities.

Dr. Maruthamuthu said he was taking steps to `accelerate' the preparation with an objective of getting a higher grading this time. Presently, MKU has a `4-Star' status. The university would submit the re-accreditation application with preliminary report well before the last date of October 1, he said, adding that physical infrastructure/ campus beautification would be completed by then.

In the Bangalore meeting, the Vice-Chancellors were briefed on the procedures for accreditation.

The Deans who attended the meeting included K. Veluthambi, Dean (Research), PR. Athappan, Dean (Industrial Consultancy) and P. M. Ajmal Khan, Dean (Endowment).

The action plan for the next two months is expected to come up for discussion at the Syndicate meeting to be held on June 25.
