Misleading advertisement
Scientific research has confirmed that Ajinomoto, chemically monosodium glutamate or MSG in short, can cause serious damage to the body. Why are the Food and Drug Administration authorities turning a blind eye to such misleading advertisements? Will the officials take notice? V.S. Rajangam, Coimbatore.
Admission to schools
The problem can be tackled for the present by adopting shift system in all schools. The future requirement should be envisaged and seats increased in present schools. More government schools for boys and girls should be constructed. Apparel exporters and millowners should lend a helping hand in the matter. M. Rangaswamy Pillai, Coimbatore.
Avoid confusion
Authorities should intimate it as power shutdown `from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m' to the press to avoid confusion among consumers. V. Sai Krishna, Coimbatore.
Entrance exam
C. Franklin, Mettupalayam
Telephone directory
The Department collects rent and the subscribers are not even given the basic facility of a directory. Will the authorities be customer-friendly and do the needful? T.V. Kalyanakrishnan, President, Ramnagar Residents' Welfare Association, Coimbatore.
An alternative road
However, the alternative road as suggested, if implemented, will be more convenient in all aspects. Work on the new railway line between Mettupalayam and Samraj Nagar in Karnataka via Sathyamangalam, Bannari and Thalamalai is likely to start sooner or later. I am told by my elders of the area that there was a route used by Tipu Sultan between Thalamalai and Bhavani Sagar and there was a proposal to lay a road between Sathyamangalam and Thalamalai via Karachikorai during the British regime. Now there is a road between Karachikorai and Thengumarahada of the Nilgiris running through Bhavani Sagar Forest Range. This road must be developed and extended to Thalamalai. This road, then, will be parallel to the proposed railway line and will be more convenient with minimum climbing with just two or three hairpin bends. Dr. P.S. Subbaiyan, Coimbatore.
