COIMBATORE: Chennaionline.com is organising a competition for school and college students in the State on recitation/singing a few lines from "Thiruvasagam" the Tamil epic, in association with Ilaiyaraaja's Thiruvasagam - Tamil Maiyam, Sornammal Educational Trust and Ilaiyaraaja Yahoo Group, along with Varaha's Kshatriya Gurucool. According to press release from Chennaionline.com, Ilaiyaraaja is releasing the "Thiruvasagam by Ilaiyaraaja Classical Crossover" album in Chennai on June 30. In Coimbatore, the contest will be held on June 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Varaha's Kshatriya Gurucool, 26, Bharathi Park 4th Cross, opposite to Lisieux School, Saibaba Colony, Coimbatore - 641 001. The top four winners in the competition for school students (first batch for children up to 8th Standard and second batch for 9th to 12th standard) and the top two winners in the competition for college students will receive prizes from Mr. Ilaiyaraaja at the function in Chennai on June 30. Entries are invited from students of educational institutions. Students may give their names to chennaionline.com or local co-ordinators - Dr. J. Vijay Venkatraman (94440 28311), M. Bhavani (984435 77986), A. T. Sivashanmugam (94431 60657) and Dr. R. Kannadhasan (98426 93388). Students can recite a few lines or sing to their own tune to any verse from "Thiruvasagam " (maximum 2 minutes each).
