IECD course in communication skills

TIRUCHI: : The Institute of Entrepreneurship and Career Development (IECD), Bharathidasan University, offers a four-month course in Effective Communication Skills in English for the student community.

The course has been designed keeping in mind the difficulty of students in taking up a job owing to lack of communication skills. Since communication skills are vital for attending an interview, migrating to other States and countries, and preparing reports, the course will not only address these issues, but also help the participants get over shyness, fear and diffidence, the IECD Director, K. Parthasarathy, said in a statement.

The course will be conducted in two time slots: 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m., and 5.15 p.m. to 7.15 p.m., on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Sundays, the course will be conducted for six hours (10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.), for employed people.

Apart from this, the IECD would also offer a six-month Advanced Diploma Course in Effective Communication Skills in English for students for three days a week. A team of experts, comprising D. Thomas, and G. Balakrishnan, former Professors of English, and S. Yusuf, and D. Jayachandran, former Professors of English, Jamal Mohamed College, has framed the syllabi for the above courses.

Application forms and prospectus can be obtained from the Director, IECD, on payment of Rs. 50 through a demand draft drawn in favour of The Director, IECD, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchi - 23, payable at the State Bank of India, Bharathidasan University Branch, Tiruchi. The name and address of the applicant should be mentioned at the back of the DD, which should be obtained from any nationalised bank on or before June 20, 2005. Applications can be obtained through post by enclosing a self-addressed envelope with Rs. 5 stamp affixed on it.

While the certificate course would begin on July 4, the diploma course would begin on August 1. The last date for receiving filled-in application is the day before commencement of courses. More information can be obtained by dialling 0431-2421635/5542244.
